Why × 33 and today's rupees

The famous 4% rule (× 25) comes from US data and was tested on retirements of up to 30 years. Research on Indian data puts a safe rate for a 40-year horizon at about 3%, so this sheet uses × 33.

Every number is in today's rupees. At 5% inflation, ₹40,000 a month today is about ₹65,156 in 10 years and ₹1,06,132 in 20. Withdrawals rise with inflation; the × 33 already plans for it.
